The C.O.D.E System: A Four Step Information Processing Powerhouse

Building Framework to Navigate The Intricate World of Crypto

The Crypto Information Maze

Imagine navigating a labyrinth, where each turn presents a new piece of information about cryptocurrency.

It's a world brimming with data, from Bitcoin's minute-by-minute price changes to the latest DeFi protocols. Finding a path through this maze that leads to understanding and successful decision-making.

This is where the C.O.D.E system becomes your compass.

The C.O.D.E. System

Tiago Forte coined the term C.O.D.E System or Framework in his book "Building A Second Brain" to tackle the problem of information overload that we encounter daily. Our brain is designed to generate ideas, not to store everything. This book is highly recommended for increasing productivity and has been incredibly helpful to me as a content creator.

I've modified these frameworks to address the vast amount of information in the crypto world and make it easier to take action. Keep in mind that results may differ, and this method might not be suitable for everyone.

C for Capture: The Art of Information Gathering

The Crypto Conundrum

In the crypto sphere, information is as volatile as the markets themselves. A tweet can trigger a price surge, and a regulatory update can cause a market dip. How do you keep up?

The C.O.D.E Solution

When we talk about Capture, we're referring to the process of collecting information that is in a constant state of flux. This means that we're actively retrieving data that is ever-changing and not stagnant.

Here's what I'm doing:

  • Create a collection of information, which can be digital or analog. It is recommended to use a digital platform like Notion, Obsidian, Spreadsheet, or Text, whichever suits your needs. This preference is due to the ease of recall provided by digital platforms.

  • Feel free to include anything in this collection, such as links, podcasts, articles, or any other information you find important.

  • Make sure this collection is easily accessible and check it regularly to ensure the information is up to date.

  • Avoid filtering or categorizing the information, simply put a bulk of information into this collection.

O for Organize: The Blueprint of Clarity

The Crypto Chaos

The world of crypto is vast. From NFTs to altcoins, the information is diverse and often scattered.

The C.O.D.E Approach

Organize your data into categories like market trends, blockchain technology, and regulatory changes. It’s like sorting your crypto portfolio: each coin in its place, each piece of information in its category.

Here's what I'm doing:

  • Create a system that suits you best. You may consider using the P.A.R.A system (Projects, Areas, Resources, and Archives), or come up with your own approach.

  • Organize your information and apply filters based on time, importance, project rating, category, or segments. Be flexible and adapt to different situations as needed.

  • While using multiple criteria can be beneficial, excessive filtering may cause you to overlook valuable information or projects.

  • Keep the organization simple. The goal here is to create a system that works for you at any time and in any situation. Avoid making it complicated.

D for Distill: Sifting the Gold from the Sand

The Crypto Overload

The crypto world is noisy. Not every tweet is insightful, not every article is crucial.

The C.O.D.E Strategy

Distill the information. This is where you separate the signal from the noise. What remains are the golden nuggets of data - insights that are actionable and valuable.

Here's what I'm doing:

  • This is where the real work starts. You need to read, do research, and organize your thoughts to extract the most valuable and relevant insights from the source. Then, distill them into a more refined and concise form.

There are multiple methods to simplify complex information. The one that I find effective is as follows:

    • Break down the information into smaller parts.

    • Identify the main idea that encompasses everything.

    • Analyze this main idea.

    • Reconstruct the information using your own methods (in my case, by creating diagrams).

    • Review the result.

  • Since the introduction of AI, I have been greatly assisted. I can now partially outsource this task to my third brain, Eli5DeFi ChatGPT, (click to subscribe and receive the link in welcome e-mail) which I have customized according to my information extraction method. But I still need to review whether the extracted information is coherent and accurate.

E for Express: Sharing Your Crypto Wisdom

The Crypto in Action

The last step involves taking action. Whether you're a trader, developer, or enthusiast, any action you take based on your insights is valuable for your growth.

The C.O.D.E Imperative

Express your insights by writing a blog, creating a thread, starting a trading journal, or simply making more informed decisions. If you don't put your insights into action, they will be forgotten, and you won't develop the necessary skills for similar situations in the future.

Here's what I'm doing:

  • For me, creating content means sharing my synthesis of a topic. It involves additional effort to compose the topic and enhance understanding for more people. Essentially, it's like teaching others and retaining knowledge for myself.

  • After sharing the topic publicly, it's important to have an open mind. Prepare yourself for the possibility that your insights might be challenged and proven wrong. Instead of feeling bad, consider it a valuable opportunity for learning, as you receive real-time feedback.

  • If you prefer not to share ideas publicly, you can keep them in your personal journal or notes. However, always maintain an open mindset.

  • Make sure all these insights remain visible to you, and don't hesitate to adapt, adjust, or discard them based on new information. This is how you'll continue to enhance and update your knowledge.

The C.O.D.E. System

Conclusion

  • To recap, the C.O.D.E system is a four-step process that includes Capturing information, Organizing it, Distilling it down to the best ideas, and Expressing these ideas creatively. This method can be highly effective in managing the vast amount of data in the crypto world, from market trends to blockchain technology updates

  • Navigating the crypto world with the C.O.D.E system isn't just about managing information; it's about mastering it. It's about transforming from a passive receiver of information to an active participant in the crypto conversation.
